HISTORY

Back in 2001, after years of demographic studies and industry analysis, Harley-Davidson Motor Company (“HDMC”) chose the Laurel area for a new dealership location. When HDMC made the opportunity known, Steve Scalia and Ryan Kelley of Charlotte, North Carolina applied for and won the dealership Target Location. Since then, we have sold our other dealerships, conducted a land search, designed our site and facility moved to the area, built a state of the art motorcycle dealership and opened the doors to Old Glory Harley-Davidson.

In order to fulfill our dream of owning and operating a Harley-Davidson Dealership in your area, we sold our two other non-Harley, franchised, multi-line dealerships in the Carolinas. We lived in the D.C. metropolitan area for a number of years, so we were eager to return.

From August 2001 through December 2003, we searched for property that would suit our dealership. We looked for a site with easy, safe access; at least 3 acres to support parking, appropriate special events and landscaping buffers; proper zoning; and proper distance from our neighboring dealers. We are excited to say that after searching every site in Beltsville, Laurel and College Park including those not listed for sale, we found only one available site that met our criteria. The site was purchased in the winter of 2004.

In order to establish a strong foundation with our surrounding neighbors and minimize our impact on the views from the Parkway, we added twice the required landscaping buffers and vegetation around the East, West and South borders of our site. Later in the design process, at the suggestion of the community, we changed our access points, added a noise-mitigating wall, added more landscaping and agreed to certain operating conditions including hours of operation, number of special charitable events and restrictions on exhaust systems sold at our dealership.

As a tribute to the rich history of Maryland and the State’s committed relationship with our Nation’s Capital, we designed our proposed building in a manner that showcases the design of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. We have incorporated Parkway Stone (from the bridges and barrier walls) into the design of Old Glory Harley-Davidson’s facility. Inside the dealership, we designed the showroom floor plan in the exact dimensions of the American flag. Our floor tile consists of thirteen alternating stripes that correspond to the thirteen stripes of the flag. The carpeted section in the General Merchandise department corresponds to the blue section of the flag that contains the 50-stars. The tile pattern culminates at the entrance to the dealership where a custom-cut, circular tile pattern ties the interior of the entrance to the exterior of the building pays tribute to the original 13-star, “Betsy Ross” Flag design.

As our name suggests, a theme of our dealership is a Celebration of the American Flag. We hope that our dedication to national themes like this one, local themes, diversity of products including motorcycles, MotorClothes, parts and accessories, and our dedication to growing markets including women and minorities will make our dealership a destination for riders and non-riders alike.

On February 1, 2007, we opened our doors privately to a select number of invited guests. On February 17th, we opened to the public. Despite freezing temperatures and ice on the ground, more than 1,200 Harley enthusiasts joined us for the celebration. Since then, we have continued to offer the best Charitable Events, Fund Raisers, Open Houses and Rides for Harley riders in the Baltimore-Washington area. The response has been overwhelming and we continue to listen to our “family” of riders who offer suggestions for making Old Glory the best that it can be.

As the new guys on the block, we look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Feel free to call anytime for any reason, or to check out our website for more detailed information [www.OldGloryHD.com].

Thank you for your support and for welcoming us into your community. We look forward to the many great rides and events that we will share in the future!
